looks like my special liberty request to go to Tokyo over Memorial Day weekend is going to get approved!  It was passed up very fast and our company commander recommended it and passed it up the chain.  round trip flights are still under $150 and we have booked a hostel for a big group of us, should be less than $30 a night!

have a bit of an issue.  I have, once again, developed a crush on someone who I am a really good friend.  I know it will only end poorly.  I fucking suck.  bye.

just finishing one of my favorite books, Balkan Ghosts, for like the 3rd time. It’s a very good history-themed travel narrative by Robert Kaplan.  highly recommend it.

especially when it prevents us from actually getting any work done.  plus, shit got real stupid around here.  marching to and from work?  ya that’s some boot camp garbage.  not happy with my unit and “the 10%” right now.

and I have been 0% excited for it for weeks now.  It is just SO fucking fitting that I have to be in the shop for work tomorrow, on a Saturday, the Saturday of my birthday, for a 24 hour shift.  7am to 7am.

I guess it’s karma.  I’ve been so negative about it anyways, so the world deems that I will not enjoy my birthday even if I want to now.  fuck.  the ONLY consolation is that we have a 4 day weekend, so I have a few days to enjoy get black-out drunk.

It’s been so boring. Given me a good chance to finish Cloud Atlas, though, a book I started months ago.
Plus, I’m on duty recovery (hopefully) all day tomorrow, so that will be nice.

I personally thought it was fantastic.  But maybe it’s just the shock that there is a new LotR universe film again.  The movie obviously took some creative liberties, and some of the scenes and characters were a bit over the top (ahem, the pale orc who sort of looked like that dude from Prometheus), but you certainly can’t say it wasn’t a fun start to the Hobbit films.

I’ve consumed like 400 calories in the last 48 hours because I might be close. I need some damn Taco Bell later.

aaaand I’m still stuck in JRC, a receiving barracks area, and we are super restricted for the long Thanksgiving holiday break.  Can’t leave base at all, can’t wear civilian clothes, and can’t even have alcohol!  It’s awful.

Plus, I purchased my first apple product yesterday, the iPhone 5.  I have an extreme dislike for apple, but it has iMessage so I can text friends back home for free, and it has good support here.  While I do like my actual phone device, I want to fucking rip my hair out dealing with iTunes.  It’s not allowing me to put in a payment method, and I can’t download ANY apps until I do that.  And the iTunes support sites just bring me in infinite loops.  So.  Fucking.  Pissed right now.
